Article summary

NoveList has been helping readers find their next favorite book for more than 20 years, and continues to develop innovative solutions for connecting readers, books, and libraries. By helping libraries help readers, NoveList empowers libraries to engage and inspire their communities. For more information, visit https://www.ebsco.com/novelist.

Titles in NoveList can link back to your Surpass Cloud OPAC, so that patrons can click a title on your library's NoveList site and be taken directly to that title in your OPAC. To use this feature, contact NoveList support at novelist@ebsco.com and let them know that your're using Surpass Cloud. They'll want to know your library's OPAC website address (URL) and they might ask for details about how the link should be constructed (see below).

NoveList OPAC Links

Links to your library's OPAC from NoveList should be in the following form:

https://{url}//search?author={author}&title={title}

  • {url} should be the address of your library's OPAC site (example: pcs.library.site). You'll need to supply that to EBSCO.
  • {author} is the author's name. EBSCO NoveList should include the author name here.
  • {title} is the title. EBSCO NoveList should include the title here.

Local Collection Information

NoveList can flag titles to let patrons know which suggested titles are available in your library collection.

To use the local collection features of NoveList, you'll need to send a list of the ISBNs of titles in your library. You can do this by using the Resources : Export feature and selecting the ISBN List option. This will create and download to your computer a file to send to EBSCO. You'll want to do this periodically to make sure that EBSCO always has an up-to-date list of the titles in your collection. Contact EBSCO NoveList support at novelist@ebsco.com for assistance in sending this file.

NoveList Select

NoveList Select includes features to help your readers find their next favorite book and to help you learn more about what your community is reading. For more information, see https://www.ebsco.com/novelist/products/novelist-select.

If the NoveList Select feature is enabled in the Resource Details section of Settings : Public Catalog : General, Surpass Cloud OPAC displays a NoveList Select tab on the detail page for resources that have available NoveList Select information.

To use this feature, you'll also need to send a list of the ISBNs of titles in your library (see Local Collection Information above). You'll also need a NoveList profile ID and password from EBSCO. Contact EBSCO NoveList support at novelist@ebsco.com for assistance.

NoveList On The Shelf

NoveList On The Shelf (OTS) communicates with Surpass Cloud to let your patrons know whether resources shown in NoveList are currently available in the library.

To use this feature, you'll also need to send a more detailed list of the titles in your library. You can do this by using the Resources : Export feature and selecting the NoveList OTS option. You'll want to do this periodically to make sure that EBSCO always has an up-to-date list of the titles in your collection. Contact EBSCO NoveList support at novelist@ebsco.com for assistance.
