Change Call Number Prefixes
The Call Prefixes is a search-and-replace feature for call number prefixes. Call number prefixes are a word, abbreviation, or other series of letters that make up the first part of a call number or precede a standard Dewey or LC call number. They are often used to denote a general location within the library. Examples include "F" or "FIC" for fiction titles, "R" or "REF" for reference materials, and "B" or "BIB" for bibliography. Whatever system of prefixes you use in your library, it is important to be consistent. You don't want a mix of different prefixes, such as some "F" and some "FIC". This tool helps you with that.
Options
Simply enter the old (existing) prefix and the new prefix you want to change it to. Then click the Start button.
Because this process can affect hundreds of resources, you are asked to confirm that this is what you want to do.
Click Yes to start the process. Just as with reports and other processes that can take some time to run, you may wait here for the process to finish or you can continue working in other areas of Surpass Cloud. In either case, you'll be notified when the process has been completed. This notification message includes the number of resources that were changed.
If your library is part of a system that has multiple locations or branches, you will be changing call number prefixes for either all locations or the selected location only.
