Final Due Dates

Article summary

There may be times when you want all resources back in the library, perhaps for inventory, or before a long closure such as Spring Break or the end of the school year. By setting final due dates, you can instruct Surpass Cloud to make sure that it calculates due dates so that the resources are due on or before the date(s) you set.

Surpass Cloud continues to use your library's Circulation Rules to calculate due dates, but it will not allow any due date to fall beyond the final due date. For example, if the rule states that a patron can have a resource on loan for 14 days, but the final due date is just 3 days away, the resource will be due in 3 days instead of 14.

Does Not Affect Existing Due Dates
Due dates are determined at the time of check out or renewal. Changing final due dates here does not affect the due dates of resources already on loan.

Form Fields

  • Use a final due date... - Indicates whether you want to use final due dates in your library. The other options do not apply (and are not visible) if this box is not checked.
  • Final due date - The latest due date you want Surpass Cloud to use when calculating when resources are due. You can set up exceptions to this date below.
  • Exceptions - Below the Final due date field are checkboxes for all of your patron types. You can use these to define different due dates for specific patron types. For example, in a school, you might want 12th graders to have an earlier final due date if their final day of school is before other students. On the other hand, you might want to allow faculty and staff to have resources on loan a little longer after the students' last day. Check the box for the patron type and enter the final due date for that type.
Multi-Location Libraries
These settings affect only your library. They do not affect other locations that might be in your Surpass Cloud library system.
