As the administrative command center of your Surpass library system, Surpass Cloud Administration allows you to customize security settings to grant or prohibit access to virtually every area, function, and feature inside your Surpass Cloud system. While it might not be feasible as you are just getting started to specifically plan out every nook and cranny of the security settings in Surpass, you should definitely start thinking about user security in Surpass and plan your security strategy as soon as you feel comfortable doing so. The results of thoughtful planning of the Surpass security settings will be worth the effort involved in planning them!
Video tutorials on security roles are available on YouTube:
Security Roles
Every user of Surpass Cloud, from patrons to the head of the library, has a security role which determines what they can do within Surpass Cloud. These roles are assigned to individual patron accounts on the Patrons : View page and default to the security role assigned to the patron type (Settings : Patrons : Types).
Example security roles include Administrator, Cataloging Clerk, Library Staff, and Patron. Surpass Cloud starts out with a default set of roles and permissions, which you may customize to suit the particular needs of your library.
Each security role has a set of permissions that determine what users in that role are allowed do to. For example, some users will be able to add patrons while others won't have that permission. Some users will be allowed to override circulation rules and restrictions on checking out to patrons who have overdue items on loan and others will be not. Patron-role users, typically have no access at all to Surpass Cloud Administration features and can use only the Surpass Cloud OPAC and Self-Check apps.
