Using Opticon Data Collectors with Surpass Cloud

Your Opticon data collector scanners can be used to scan barcodes for physical inventory. You use Opticon's software to read the barcodes from the scanners and create a file that can be uploaded to Surpass Cloud's Resources : Inventory : Take Inventory page for processing.

Requirements

The following instructions apply to Opticon Models OPH-1004, OPH-1005, and DCL-1530, and requires a computer running Windows.

Setup

The setup steps need to be performed only once on each computer that will be used.

1. Download and install the Opticon software

Download and install the file named Net032 as shown below:

2. Connect scanner to your computer

3. Note which COM port your scanner is using

Check Windows Device manager for this. If you aren't sure or can't find it in Device Manager, you can try different COM port settings in Step 6 until you find the one that works.

4. Create a Folder on your computer for Surpass Inventory files

Example: C:\Surpass Inventory

5. Open Net032 and select Tools > Options

6. Change settings

Change the following three settings (leave the other settings at the default values) and click Apply:

  • COM port - The COM port to which your scanner is connected.
  • Baudrate - 115200.
  • IrDA - Tekram compatible

7. Set the Receiving Directory

Click Download.

Then set the Receiving Directory to the folder you created in Step 4 (e.g. C:\Surpass Inventory) then click OK.

8. Save the settings

Select File > Save As and save the file on your Desktop as Surpass Inventory Downloader.nsf.

  1. This will be the file to open each time you want to perform inventory.

Inventory Using Opticon OPH-1004 or OPH-1005

  1. Use the remote scanner to scan barcodes.

  2. Place scanner back in cradle and choose to “Send Data.”

  3. Open the Surpass Inventory Downloader you saved on your desktop.

  1. Select Protocol > Start.

You will see the progress as the barcodes download. When finished, click Protocol > Stop.

  1. In Surpass Cloud, go to Resources : Inventory : Take Inventory and click the Upload button to upload the file created in the prior steps. You should find this file in the C:\Surpass Inventory folder, or other folder you specified when you were setting up. Surpass Cloud will upload and process the barcodes.

  2. Clear memory from scanner and repeat steps for Inventory for each session.

Inventory Using Opticon OPH-1530

  1. In scanner, toggle to Tools, click Select, and then Interface.. Toggle to USB Cable and then Select (this will de-select the Cradle option).

  2. Using the remote scanner, scan your barcodes.

  3. Connect USB cable and choose to “Send Data.”

  4. Open the Surpass Inventory Downloader you saved on your desktop.

  1. Select Protocol > Start.

You will see the progress as the barcodes download. When finished, click Protocol > Stop.

  1. In Surpass Cloud, go to Resources : Inventory : Take Inventory and click the Upload button to upload the file created in the prior steps.   2. Clear memory from scanner and repeat steps for Inventory for each session.
