The Reviews widget on the public catalog gives patrons the opportunity to leave a 1-5 star rating, as well as a written review, of a given resource. Patrons may also tag the item with a preset category, such as Fantasy or Humor, so that users can look at reviews for many resources within their category of interest. This feature offers patrons the chance to engage with their library’s collection and increases the visibility of the item by highlighting it on the home page of your OPAC.
A video tutorial on OPAC reviews is available on YouTube: OPAC Reviews
To enable the Reviews widget on your OPAC, you should first ensure that your Settings in the Admin portal are correct and that you have set up appropriate Review Categories.
Next you will want to log in to your OPAC portal and select the spinning gear icon on the right of the banner.
Choose to Add New Widgets and select the Reviews widget.
You will then be able to choose whether the Reviews show in grid or carousel form and determine the maximum amount of reviews to show. As always, you may also reposition the widget by dragging and dropping the Reviews box to your preferred area of the Home Page.
If you adjust your settings so that reviews require approval prior to being published, you will be notified via email when a new review has been submitted. To locate the review, you will login to your OPAC and select the Library News tab. Find the Recent Reviews section and select the Find More Reviews button.
Search for Unpublished reviews.
You will be offered the ability to Publish, Edit, or Delete the review.
To edit the Review Categories that are available for patrons to flag their review with, check out Review Categories in the Settings section of your admin portal.
