Article summary

You can renew loans from the Patron Status or Resource Status modes, or by clicking the Renew button. Patrons can also renew from Surpass Cloud OPAC and Self-Check.

Renew from Patron Status

Since you often do not have the resource in-hand, the most-common way of renewing loans is from the Patron Status mode. See the Patron Status documentation for more information. There, you can also renew all resources on loan to a patron at once instead of individually.

If you want to renew by scanning a barcode or searching for a resource by barcode number or title, click the Renew button.

Select Resource

The Renew page shows a list of Items Renewed by you since you have been logged into Surpass Cloud. At the top of the list is an input for you to scan a barcode or search for a resource to renew. See Selecting a Resource for detailed instructions on how to select a resource.

Fines

If a resource was overdue and a fine charged, you'll see a message at the top of the page. This message does not interfere with your workflow, but it does give you the opportunity to collect a fine from the patron at that time if one is due.

If the patron is paying the fine at the time of check-in or if you want to waive the fine, click the Collect button to enter the payment.

You can collect the payment and click Add Payment or waive the fine by clicking Forgive.

Circulation Blocks and Overrides

You will sometimes encounter situations where rules block renewing a resource to a patron. When that happens, you'll get a message like the following, explaining the reason:

At this point, you can select whether you want to cancel the transaction or to override. Click the Close button to close the message and cancel the check out. Click Override if you want to disregard the rule and continue with the transaction.

If your Security Roles does not allow you to override, you will need to to receive authorization from a supervisor or someone else who has permission to override the block. This user will need to enter their login credentials to authorize the transaction. This override authorization is one-time only. If you run into another situation where you want to override, the supervisor will again need to authorize the transaction.
