Article summary

For snow days, weather days, or any other unexpected library closures, you'll want to handle them in the same way as holidays (or regularly scheduled closed days) in Surpass, except you'll set them up retroactively. Go to Settings : Circulation : Calendar and click on each day the library was closed to mark it as closed. This will mean that any items that would have normally been due on the closed day will instead be due on the next subsequent open library day, so overdue fines will not be assessed and items will not be considered overdue if they are returned on the day that the library reopens.

Note that changes like this do not affect items that have already been checked in, so make sure that you go to Settings : Circulation : Calendar and mark your closed day(s) as soon as you return to reopen the library, before you begin checking items in.

Stop Scheduled Notices

Due dates are determined when resources are checked out, so the resources will still technically be due on the original due date even though that date may have now been changed to a closed date. Fines will not be charged, but reminders and overdue notices will still be sent if you're sending overdue notices on an automated schedule.

If your library is going to be closed for several days, consider temporarily turning off schedules for notices by going to Patrons : Reports : Reminders and Overdue Notices and un-checking the Create notices automatically check box). Check for this on Patrons : Reports : Delinquent Notices as well.
